Stand with Communities
PROTECT THE PROGRAMS THAT PROTECT YOUR COMMUNITY
Help us protect life-saving programs that empower families and communities across the nation.
The Trump Administration's FY2026 budget proposes eliminating funding for proven programs that support millions of families across the nation. These include the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG), the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), the Title X Family Planning program, and the AmeriCorps Foster Grandparent Program. If passed by Congress, these cuts would devastate local communities and local economies. Please read below about how you can join us to advocate for the continuation of these programs.

COMMUNITY SERVICES BLOCK GRANT

Community Action Agencies were created by the Community Services Block Grant which provides flexible funding that Agencies leverage with private, local and donor funding to provide job training, housing counseling, food security, youth develop and related support to approximately 10 million individuals nationwide.
Nearly one thousand Community Action Agencies across the nation work within their community to provide innovative programs and solutions which provide families across America with the tools needed to lift themselves out of poverty.

Community Action Agencies are uniquely led by tripartite boards which include community members reflective of the community, private sector local business representatives and elected public officials.

See the National Community Action Partnership, the National Community Action Foundation and the National Association for State Community Services Programs websites for more information on Community Action Agencies.

Given their unique position as community leaders, many Community Action Agencies also rely on the following funding:

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services provides funding to state agencies who then distribute it to Community Action Agencies and similar community-drive organizations across the country to help keep families safe and healthy by providing assistance to reduce the costs associated with home energy bills, energy crises, weatherization, and minor energy-related home repairs. See the National Energy & Utility Affordability Coalition website for more information.

AmeriCorps Foster Grandparent Program

The federally funded AmeriCorps Foster Grandparent program provides funding to Community Action Agencies and other community-based organizations with the dual purpose of engaging Americans 55 years and older in volunteer service in exchange for a stipend payment and providing one-on-one support to children with special needs to improve their academic, social, or emotional development. The volunteers in this program help children learn to read and provide one-on-one tutoring; mentor trouble teenagers and young mothers; care for premature infants or children with disabilities; help children who have been abused or neglected. See the Voices for National Service website for more information.

Title X Family Planning Program

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services provides funding to grant recipients across the nation to provide important, life-saving and necessary family planning and reproductive health services to almost 3 million individuals, many of whom live in underserved communities. See the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association website for more information.
